Thank you Santa!–Gracias Papa Noel!

Santa brought me a perfume!! yes! I wanted this for a long time.. it is very strong and definitely not for shrinking violets.

It was created by Dominique Ropion in 2005,  the nose behind Alien, Anglomania, Amarige amongst many others.

Top notes: bergamot and heliotrope

Middle notes: red pepper and jasmine

Base notes: vanilla, patchouli, tonka bean and sandalwood

It is the most delicious invisible gown you could wear.

Papa noel me trajo un perfume! queria esta fragancia desde hace tiempo…es fuerte y definitivemente no para “violetas achuchadas” como decimos en el Ingles..!(me refiero a aquellas damicelas que no quieren atraer la atencion!)

Fue creada por Dominique Ropion en 2005. El mismo que creo Alien, Anglomania y Amarige solo por mencionar unos pocos.

Las notas superiores: Bergamota y heliotropo

Las notas medias: pimiento rojo y jazmin

Las notas de base: vainilla, pachouli, granos de tonka y sandalo.

Christmas Traditions: Castle Howard–Tradiciones Navideñas Castillo Howard

Last Sunday as part of my Christmas traditions which consist of doing christmassy things (not just shopping!) I went to Castle Howard.

Castle howard is one of the finest estately homes in England, and it looks beautiful at xmas time. There are lit candles everywhere, beautiful open fires and a fantastic atmosphere.

Sadly the pictures can’t really capture the lovely glow in each room, but can give you a little taste of it.

 

El domingo pasado, como parte de mis tradiciones navideñas de hacer “cosas navideñas propiamente dichas” (y no tantas compras!) fui as Castillo Howard ( en York, en el norte de Inglaterra para aquellos que no lo conozcan).

La casa es una de las mas refinadas “estately homes” y estaba bellisima toda decorada con millones de velas por todos lados, hogares a leña y sobre todo una atmosfera magnifica.

Lastima que mi pobre camarita y mi inhabilidad para tomar fotos.. no pude capturar el brillo de la luz de la vela en las habitaciones semi oscuras, pero al menos saque algunas para que le sientan el gustito..

Christmas traditions, the Nativity–Tradiciones navideñas, el Pesebre

Christmas is coming soon and I thought I try to find out about the origins of some of the things we do..

Have you ever wandered since when have people put up a Nativity scene? Since the very birth of Jesus?.. wrong!

It was during the Middle Ages that St. Francis of Assisi came up with the idea of the Nativity scene, using animals and villagers to re-enact the story of Jesus' birth at Bethlehem. It happened for the first time in the village of Greccio in Italy.

Navidad se acerca y pense que seria interesante averiguar del por que o el origen de algunas de las cosas que practicamos.

Se te ha ocurrido pensar desde cuando ponemos pesebres? desde el nacimiento de Jesus?..equivocado.

Fue en la edad media cuando a San Francisco de Asis se le ocurrio usar animales y pueblerinos para  recrear la historia del nacimiento de Jesus. La primera vez que esto sucedio fue en el pueblo de Greccio en Italia.

I’m back–Volvi

Hi everyone, sorry to be boring and no posting but I have been feeling overwhelmed with work and just simple panic of not being able to have ready all that I want to have ready for Christmas..(not sure this makes sense..?) I am a stress head, I know! So I tool a little rest, try to enjoy the snow that covers England at the moment and I will now be posting more often.

Hola a todos, disculpenme que sea aburrida por no publicar ningun post nuevo pero he estado sobrepasada por mi trabajo y simplemente por el panico de no terminar antes de la Navidad todo lo que tengo planeado.. Soy una “preocupona” ya se! asi que me he tomado un descancito y tratado de disfrutar la nieve que cubre Inglaterra en este momento y prometo publicar mas a menudo.

Joy for my eyes–Regocijo para mis ojos

For all those keen sewers and lovers of textiles, this has to be “the film” it is called “Bright Star” and tells the story of the romance between John Keats and Fanny, a very proficient seamtress.

I don’t really know how to describe this but the film is surrounded by a “sense of fabric and texture” that I have never seen before.

Para todos aquellos amantes de lo textil, esta es una pelicula que va a quedar en tu memoria. Se llama “Bright Star” y cuenta la historia del romance estre el poeta John Keats y Fanny Brawne una bella e inteligente modista.

No se como describirlo pero la pelicula esta rodeada de un magnifico sentido textil que no habia notado en otros films .

One of the nicest things of living in northern Europe is that you can have a cold Christmas!

For my European readers this may come as a bit of an obvious thing but for someone that spent nearly 29 years of a summer Christmas, having a cold one is a lovely novelty. Having a snowy one..a dream come true.

At this time of the year when the first leaves of autumn start to fall, I start planning my decorations, and just fantasizing about it.

In Argentina, where I come from, we put “some” decorations, maybe a tree, but here you can really lose yourself.. and there are real Christmas trees!

….just a little secret to confess.. I played “Baby it’s cold outside” one of my favourite tunes for Christmas time.

Una de las mejores de vivir en el norte europeo es que uno tiene una Navidad con frio!

Para los lectores europeos esto caera como una obviedad pero para los que pasamos muchas Navidades en el calor (29 años) las fiestas frias son toda una novedad.. y si tenemos nieve, todo un sueño.

En Argentina ponemos aguna que otra decoracion o un arbol pero aca, uno puede perder la cabeza y dejarse llevar.. y ademas hay pinos navideños reales…

..un secretito para confesar.. hoy puse “baby it’s cold outside” ( para los que  no lo saben, es una cancion que habla del invierno, no muy navideña pero si se la escucha frecuentemente en Navidad y es una de mis favoritas)

When I grow up… cuando sea grande

When I was little, there was a shop around the corner that sold quite a range of things.

It was divided in 2 sections, one had toiletries and then there was the hosiery/lingerie/underwear side.

During the summer holidays, the ladies who owned the shop (bear in mind that I was only about..8 years old!) let me serve customers, wrap the goods in everyday paper or “special giftwrap” paper if the customers so wished.

When Christmas was near there was a great need for ribbon bows for the gifts..I was the chief bow maker! Attaching a gold label with the name of the shop on to the center of each bow…!

On the underwear section there was a special discipline. The ladies undies were all folded in a very particular way and put in drawers just like the ones in the picture, all neatly displayed, by colour, by type….nice memory.

I always thought that I would have a shop when I was older.. but that has not happened.

I would love to though…specially a cafe or tea room.

Cuando era chiquita habia un negocio a la vuelta de la esquina, que vendia una variedad de cosas.

Estaba dividido en dos: una parte vendia productos de tocador y perfumes y la otra parte, ropa interior y camisones, pijamas y robes.

En las vacaciones de veraño, las señoras dueñas del negocio (imaginense que solo tenia mas o menos 8 años!) me dejaban servir a los clientes, envolver las compras en papel comun si era una compra de diario o “papel para regalo ” si se trataba de un obsequio.

Cuando las fiestas navideñas se acercaban, yo era la jefa a cargo de los moños! los hacia en cinta ribbonette azul o rosa y aplicaba una etiqueta dorada en el centro.

En la seccion de ropa interior y de cama habia una disciplina muy especial. Las prendas interiores de mujer eran dobladas con presicion, para ser exhibidas en un mueble exactamente igual al de la foto… lindo recuerdo.

Siempre pense que cuando sea grande que tendria un negocio..las cosas se dieron de otra manera pero sin embargo, me encantaria tener un cafe o una casa de te..

Parfum Sacre

I have commented before how so very much I love perfume, and in general how much I am influenced by smells.

There is a classic fragrance that I would like to talk about today Caron Parfum Sacre.

I am by no means a connoisseur or expert in perfumes, but someone who likes living them and travel with them wherever they want to take you.

Parfum Sacre is to my view, better appreciated when the basenotes start to appear. Is then when it starts wrapping you in a cocoon of warmth and reminiscence. You almost feel embraced.

I like spraying my wrists with this when I go to sleep sometimes… just to enjoy warm embrace.

Ya he comentado con anterioridad sobre cuanto amo los perfumes y cuanta influencia tienen en mi ciertos olores.

Hoy les quiero hablar un poquito de una clasica fragancia francesa: Parfum Sacre.

No soy de ningun modo una “conocedora” o experta en perfumes. Solo soy alguien a quien le gusta vivirlos y dejarse mover a donde te quieran llevar.

Parfum Sacre, en mi opinion, se aprecia al maximo cuando las notas de fondo empiezan a aparecer. Es asi cuando sentis que te envuelve en un cocoon de tibieza y te hace entrar en estado de “reminicencia”. Se siente como un abrazo.

 

Me gusta ponerme un poquito en las muñecas cuando me voy a la cama..solo para sentir su tibio abrazo.

Harvest time! Tiempo de cosecha

Back from my holidays I found a very pleasant vegetable surprise.. lots of the produce of my garden were really to be enjoyed.

Al volver de las vacaciones me encontre con una agradable “sorpresa vegetal” mi jardin ha comenzado a dar frutos y algunos estaban listos para ser cosechados.

Mis queridos lectores en Español me tendran que disculpar aqui..no se como es el nombre de este vegetal en castellano! asi es la vida, si alguien me quiere sacar de las tinieblas.. bienvenido.                                                                                                    Como les iba diciendo estos son zuchinis ( zapallitos largos) a los que se deja crecer bien gordos y grandotes.. estos seran convertidos en dulce de “zapallo”(o como le llamen) y genjibre.

These potatoes are just divine. They are of the King Edward variety. Not a great producing potato in terms of volume but fantastic quality.. they were turned in a delicious gratin Dauphinoise.Truly fingerlicking

Estas papas son espectaculares. Son de la variedad King Edward. No producen demaciada cantidad por planta pero si muy alta calidad. Esta pequeña cantidad fue a parar a un gratin Dauphinoise que fue realmente  para chuparse los dedos!

And my beautiful beetroots..perfectly formed and with lots of crispy leaves.

I can see a beetroot and chocolate cake coming…and I will give it a try to eating the leaves in salad or maybe something else..I shall report on this.

Y esta es una de las tantas divinas remolachas que tengo.                                                                                                          Algunas de estas coloradas preciosuras seran convertidas en torta de chocolate y remolacha .La hojas son comestibles y se comenta que usadas en la misma manera que la espinaca ( de la cual son hermanas ya que comparten el casi el mismo nombre botanico) son riquisimas…. ya les contare cuando haga la prueba.

I am back - Volvi

My much awaited camping holiday in Wales was a bit wet! so we had to make some changes.. had a nice time though…but I don’t think I will be planning any more camping in the UK summer!

Dreams - Sueños

In a couple of weeks I am going for a little summer holiday. The weather is turning for the worse and for experience, when it starts raining like it is now.. it does not stop for 2 months.. believe me people, it happened before.
My little holiday will be a camping holiday in Wales..not my favourite due to the most uncomfortable sleeping arrangement ever designed..but I am going to dream it will be like this.

En un par de semanas me voy a tomar unas pequeñas vacaciones. El tiempo esta empeorando y cuando llueve asi, generalmente no para por al menos 2  meses. No es broma mi querida gente.. esto ya lo hemos vivido una y otra vez.
Volviendo a mi vacacion, les cuento que va a se acampando en Gales.. no lo que mas me gusta, para se honesta, ya que es muy incomodo dormir en el piso, congelarse de frio y demas…De mientras voy a soñar que esta sera mi camita..
